Bringing down the house (and by that i mean the euro!)
The past few days i have been contemplating various ideas on what to write at this blog. I have been receiving email reminders to update it... However, it's not that i have forgotten... it's just that things are really at a standstill these past few days.
In a sum i have been detached from my home town and got transfered to a city called Larissa. My experiences thus far have a HUGE range from positive to negative.
No no... i am not disappointed! If anything that's one of the reasons i left Canada right? Moar experiences :).
I arrived in Larissa after having to deal with alot of indecisive officers about what protocol should be followed. Allow me to explain. One fine afternoon i was making food for about 55 people, and i receive a phone call from one of the commanding officers to report to his office. There they had announced my detachment from my unit and eventual departure the very next morning. Answering to my question of i should take care off before taking off, they told me to hand in my helmet (the special kind), my gear and my weapon. In addition, i was to gather signatures from all the officers at camp for some reason that up until this point is not very clear to me.
As a side note: i was called in the office around 5 pm with all the officers having left for home at 3. I was to depart the next day at 7 am with all the officers arriving for work at 7:30. So the inevitable question is raised on how the hell am i to gather signatures from all the officers.
Bypassing that, and the rage it brought me, i went back to preparing dinner. After all i wouldn't want to be hunted down by 55 hungry soldiers... that carry guns.. and are irritable.
The next morning i race to hand in my gear, weapon and helmet as it was asked of me. My senior lieutenant sees me carrying all this stuff, (including my military issued luggage... i guess that would be the right word for it) and stops me right on my tracks. He proceeds to tell me that i am only required to hand in my weapon. I remember thinking to my self that he should know better, so i leave my other staff back at my locker. Seeing however, that there was a mix up with the gear stuffs (yay internet lingo!) i decide to ask about the signatures required. To my surprise i find that those are not needed either. So i hand in my weapon and take off for the command base where i am supposed to talk to the base commander, and the get all the paperwork sorted out so i can be on my merry way.
That was pretty painless, and i also got an extra day in travel time to spend as i wish. So i took my car, down to Larissa to see the city, and to report in the very next morning. I had never been to Larissa before, so i wanted to see the city and get a feel for it.
First off, it really is not a big city... However, the population is dense and the people apparently are loaded. The high female population works to my favor as well (compliments of the university in town) ;)
Secondly, the city is _filled_ with squares and plazas, just buzzing with activity. All these squares are filled with coffee shops, eateries and bars. Good times indeed.
Next morning i report to the officers at my new post. It really came as no surprise that i was made responsible for the cafeteria section, where i get to serve everything from drinks, coffee to food to all the retired military guys. Some of those guys are just hilarious. They do like to share stories about times past :).
So ever since, day in and day out, i have been at my post serving etc. It's kinda like a job... and it gets monotonous... but the people i work with make it all the more fun :) Also, on the plus side, i dont get to do as many gate guard duties, and i am out and about every other day or so. So with this and that, i am kinda waiting for my time to dwindle down and to be release from the military.
Guess that is it from me for the time being.. i know, i know, nothing really exciting right? Will try and keep this updated as much as i can... no foolsies!
